HOW TO KEEP YOUR MARRIAGE S-P-I-C-Y

After a baby comes into the mix, let’s be real… your marriage can sometimes lose that spicy component we all crave. I mean, who’s to blame, the baby, each other, gravity?!? I’m still trying to answer this one. After my husband saw me in a hospital diaper post-delivery, I can imagine some things changed in his mind LOL.

But honestly, keeping things sexy between you and your husband is really important. As parents, your relationship is the foundation for your family. Your kids feed off your connection and energy so staying connected helps all parties involved. It will make your relationship stronger, more fun, and more fulfilling for both of you. Whoever said marriage doesn’t require LOTS of work – I guarantee you, they ain’t married anymore! You know the quote: anything worth having is worth working for – and yes, a healthy, happy marriage falls into that category.  But don’t worry because this kind of work is fun…

Tips for keeping things steamy:

1.    Dress to impress each other.

Don’t dress like you’ve given up on life at the end of the day when your hubby comes home. If being comfy is key, invest in some cute, form-fitting loungewear or even better, splurge on some sexy, silky PJs (like the ones I’m wearing by, Homebodii). Homebodii, has the most gorgeous collection of sleepwear. It’s my new obsession for intimate and personalized nighttime apparel. You’ll go from feeling like a tired mama to a sparkly model mama in an instant.

2.    Don’t complain about yourself to your spouse.

I’m so guilty on this one. It’s truly a bad habit that I know my hubby thinks is so exhausting to hear (all the time). Complaining to your significant other about what you don’t like about yourself… your hair, your thighs, your body, whatever… is a big no-no and will always kill the sexy vibe. Put on some lipstick, tell yourself your beautiful, and be confident, there’s nothing sexier!

3.    Keep Pooping Private!

Tell your husband he is not allowed to go poop in the master bathroom (this is a “help me, help you” type of advice to give to your husband).

4.    Let’s talk about Sex.

I’m hesitant to even address this topic since it’s a little personal and a little awkward, BUT here it goes… SEX! I know in our relationship if we go more than about 4-5 days without it, our relationship starts to deteriorate exponentially. That might not be the same for everyone, but for us we try to get busy at least once a week. And, I’m profusely sweating now ha… sorry for the TMI.

5.    Plan date nights!

We got so out-of-sync on this one after our little one was born. But truly, it’s impossible to have a connected conversation at home with kids. You need to go to a new exciting environment together. Get dolled up and connect with no distractions. Do not go more than 2 weeks. Ever. If you live in LA my favorite date spots are: Rose Café and Felix.

6.   Plan a Tech-Free Evening.

Plan a cell-phone free hour or two together a couple times a week. When you are at home and you want to make time to reconnect, designate a chunk of time where you guys are spending time together tech-free. Cut yourself off from the outside world so that you can be fully present.

7.    Kiss and hug for 2 minutes without letting go.

There are ample studies that say this is the most powerful de-stressor and will immediately put a smile of your face. Do it now. Go!
