The Model Mama

FEATURE FRIDAY: KIM CALDWELL

MOMMYHOODTara LawlerComment

Hello and happy Friday to you all my Modern Mamas! I took a week off from this FEATURE FRIDAY SERIES due to some fun summer travel to see family – AND – because I was out of commission for 2 weeks because of my horrendous black eye (yikes!). Who knew Mommyhood was a full contact sport?!?! This happened as I was innocently reading stories to my son in bed (in an attempt to get him to wind down)… Of course, he jumps backwards at full speed to lay next to me and the back of his head ends up accidentally hitting me square in the right eye. You can still see what’s left of the healing process in our video (but thank goodness for concealer).

Now that I’m back in full swing, I couldn’t be more excited to continue this series on The Model Mama Show. Trust me, this week’s FEATURED MAMA was worth the wait. Without further ado, here she is: my beautiful, charismatic, and oh-so talented friend, Kim Caldwell. This Texas-born Mama has been preforming since she was five. You may recognize her… she was a finalist on the second season of American Idol. She’s an incredible singer (head to her Instagram and you’ll be blown away), TV Host, beauty blogger, and makes custom leather handbags in her free time (a hobby that she taught herself by watching YouTube). I mean, is there anything she can’t do?!? Her hilarious commentary can also be viewed on the Steve Harvey Show. She’s a regular panelist dishing on relationships and… hmmm how shall I say this… the topic of S-E-X! But most importantly, Kim is an incredible Mama to her adorable daughter, Harlow. She married to the love of her life, Jordan Harvey, who plays for the new Los Angeles soccer team, LAFC. It’s safe to say, they’re one talented crew!

Ok, just typing all that made me need another latte ;) I don’t know how she does it all… but she does with positivity, a sense of humor and just the right amount of attitude! This mama will undoubtedly become your new bestie. She’s so honest, down-to-earth, and hilarious about her transition to Motherhood and how she navigates her busy life. I had too much fun laughing and chatting with Kim… tune in below for all her wise and practical insights!

Some of my FAVORITE takeaways from Kim:

+ Allow yourself to be creative:

Even if you’re a stay at home mom, it’s important to have a little me time and a release for yourself. For me creativity is just in me. I love being out there and just being myself and doing entertainment in general. Whether it’s acting, singing or hosting…
— Kim

+ No need to spend an hour curling your hair:

Only curl the TOP layer of your hair. Then you’re not putting heat and damage on your entire head. You don’t have to take the time to do your whole head and your hair actually looks longer.
— Kim

+ Because her hair is ah-mazing – here’s her favorite hair product:

I love redkin spay wax. It’s my crack. Spray a little bit all over and you’re out the door.
— Kim

+ Don’t beat yourself up over achieving balance. Just do your BEST to be present:

Balance is so impossible. The Mom Guilt is so gross… When I’m with my daughter, I try to be a million percent present. It’s so hard with social media and your phone… Life gets busy, so you just have to do your BEST and that is enough.
— Kim

+ Know when to let go:

Learning patience has been the hardest thing for me. I’m very scheduled and all about the checklists, but I’ve learned how to let that go and say, oh well, it didn’t work out that way.
— Kim

+ Preparation is key:

Motherhood is all about preparation. Get the biggest bag you can find and fill it with all the what-if things that could happen in your life.
— Kim

+ Tips for a healthy marriage:

Marry a hot guy that is NICE! Find someone who knows your level of crazy and can deal with it without making you more crazy…. But you also have to take time for each other! We schedule date nights. We make it a priority, get dressed up and make it happen.
