The Model Mama

YOUR CALIFORNIA DREAM AWAITS

Ok, serious question Mamas… Have you ever been on vacation, stayed somewhere and thought: I MUST make this an annual tradition simply because it was so fun and felt so EASY? For me, the answer was No, until this past December that is… Taking our family to the Hotel del Coronado was exactly this type of experience, and I couldn’t help but think to myself, “OMG we have to make this an annual trip.” Every detail was stunning and there were so many unforgettable, festive activities on the property, not just for me but for my whole family.

First off, it is worth mentioning that I have some notable history at Hotel del Coronado, so it hold a special place in my heart. My first encounter with this iconic seaside resort was pre- “The Model Mama” days, but part of how I ended up here. Becoming the founder of this lovely platform and creating this incredible community of modern mamas and beyond… what a journey, what a life! I’m beyond grateful for it ALL.

Almost exactly seven years ago (February 2015 to be precise), I stayed at “The Del” (as locals call it) for 3-nights to shoot their new resort campaign. Back then, I was in full-time model mode. I instantly fell head-over-heels for this stunning resort. I distinctly remember imagining how magical would it be to return someday with my hubby and our future-family. Back then, this all felt like a distant dream since I had only been married for two years. Unbeknownst to me, I did have my mama vibes brewing. I remember feeling “off” on that photoshoot – less energy, feeling bloated, and my boobs really stole the show, oh my (“feeling extra “boobie” in my bathing suits”)! A couple weeks later, I discovered I was in-fact expecting, and that was the start of my mommyhood journey.

In so many ways, I’ve always cherished that campaign shoot so much because it was technically the first campaign I did as a MAMA. When I had the opportunity to return to Hotel Del Coronado with my whole family, I was over-the-moon with excitement. It felt very much like a full circle moment: an adventure I had absolutely manifested for years prior.

After a quick 2.5-hour flight from Seattle, we hopped into our Uber XL with all our kid-gear and drove to Coronado. Minutes later, the legendary Hotel Del Coronado was in our sights. We could hear the waves and smell the sea, and we were all full of excitement for the days ahead. Upon arrival we were greeted with a warm welcome by the property staff and directed to our private entrance to the Del’s newest neighborhood, known as The Shore House.

This extraordinary development of seaside residences at The Shore House offers a stunning and very elevated resort experience. Each room in The Shore House sits beside a breathtaking pool that blends seamlessly into the horizon in a very rare beachside setting. This pool has exclusive access available only to Shore House guests. The captivating ocean views are visible from every angle and the décor makes you feels as though you just arrived in the Hamptons and decorated by Serena & Lily. I was drooling over every costal-chic decor detail and felt immediately transported to a place of tranquility and undeniable happiness the minute we stepped onto the property.

As if this wasn’t magical enough, upon check-in, the front desk told us… make sure to be on the beach by 4:30pm sharp because someone extra special would be making a very GRAND entrance from the sky. Eagerly awaiting the surprise, we witnessed SANTA parachuting onto the beach. If there was ever a way to jumpstart your holiday spirits, this whole experience most definitely was IT.

Our spacious residence-style room in The Shore House contained the perfect setup for a family of five getaway. Our three-bedroom, two-story suite was equipped with our very own washer/dryer and stylish, super convenient kitchen. Everything a mama needs to get organized and have snacks and beverages accessible all-day long.

Another memorable activity was dining in our very own private “igloo” beachside next to a cozy fire. It was the dreamiest setting I could ever imagine to watch a sunset, roast hot dogs, make s’mores, sip hot cocoa, indulgence in a festive cocktail, and enjoy a charcuterie board. In front of our luxurious beachfront igloo was a cozy fire pit – perfect for roasting and cuddling. The next evening, we had the opportunity to ice skate at the Del’s beautiful outdoor skating rink while gazing at the view of the ocean. After ice skating, we dined at their festive Frostbite Lounge, watched an amazing fireworks show.

Another favorite pit-stop for me and my cuties was a visit to their delicious ice cream parlor. The perfect way to enjoy the sunshine and the gorgeous surroundings while indulging in a scoop (or two).

My favorite feature of The Del is the proximity to the beautiful San Diego beach. Within just a few footsteps of our room, we could have our toes in sand. There’s always been something about the ocean that captivates my attention and soothes my soul. For me, there’s no better way to feel grounded and grateful than to walk in the sand and put my feet in the ocean.  Oh, how I love vacations where this biggest dilemma is whether to hang by the pool or the ocean. At The Shore House you can easily do both. Their breathtaking pool is situated in a way that looks out to the horizon from every vantage point. While lounging poolside, you can hear the waves and see the sand… it truly feels as if the pool is merely an extension of the sea.
